[Best of Boards]  [BoB for Bunnies] [Tealited Tidbits]

7/17/2001 From the Leader Forum on the Message Board:

I do Lisa Johnson's show demo from last year's conference power packed dinner. I kind of modified it a little by adding other ideas I got from conference.  I like the demo because it incorporates product, hostess program, and sponsoring thru the whole show.

After I hand the YCHIA's out to everyone, I say, "This is the information for question #5. If you want more information, please write yes. If not, leave it blank because I only like to see happy things on my door prize slips." Then I say, "You may be sitting here thinking what am I going to do with the information that she just gave me? If what I do doesn't interest you, tuck the info away in your purse. You never know who you're going to bump into that could use it. Maybe someone just lost their job, or someone is looking for a part time job, or someone is burned out in the job they're in - like I was. Pass the info on and have them call me. And, please don't think I'm pushing my job on you. I am just so grateful to the person who encouraged me to start because PL has changed my life. If I didn't share this stuff, I wouldn't be doing my job tonight by giving each & every one of you the chance to change your life."

Someone always asks why I got started during the candle giveaway and I do a mini testimonial. It's a "tear jerker", so when I close with the above statement, someone in the room can always relate to me.

So far, since I have changed my show demo to this format, I have sponsored 20+ people, and all but 3 were from my shows.

Show Demonstration By Lisa Johnson (adapted version)

You will need the following18 items.  They are related to product, hostess program and opportunity.  Place each in a Ziploc bag.

  •  Scissors – explain the importance of trimming the wicks

  • Metal clip from tealight or votive – clean burning candles, entire candle burns, etc.

  • Plastic TL cup with wick off center – explain the difference between metal and plastic & importance of snuffing

  • Pineapple tealight and Dole Pineapple card – explain 3 booking gift

  • $100 bill – shopping spree – explain hostess program by stacking the hostess

  • Spoon – promote the Home Scentiments line

  • 3 wick pancake – explain how to properly burn pillars

  • Two ½ price item coupons – explain hostess program and have guest pick out favorite items

  • Hostess special flyer – explain the specials for the month

  • Cloth Diaper – for polishing brass.  Use the Falmouth and share with the group how many shows you have taken this to and how beautiful it still looks.  Quality of brass.

  • Real $1 bill with cottage light over face – explain the ACS promotions

  • Eight $100 bills – explain the opportunity program and how to get started

  • Swimming trunks or swim suit – explain the incentive trips

  • Empty bag – this is the most valuable bag in the room – explain the opportunity with no cost to start up

  • Pictures from meetings & card that says FUN – explain the workshops and trainings

  • Pantyhose – demonstrate how to polish candles using pantyhose

  • Bows – suggest gift ideas, bridal shower shows, couples parties, etc.

  • Salt – salt is a great tool to use for cleaning flower rings.  Put salt in paper bag and shake.

Place bags on chairs so each guest gets at least one.  If you have less guests, give extras to some guests.

Go around the room and have each guest introduce themselves and tell a little about them.  Have the guest try to figure out what the item in their bag could mean.  Give a tealight to each person after they try, and be sure to explain it if they didn’t give a full explanation.

After you’ve done all the bags, go around the room again and ask each person to point out their favorite item on your display.  At the second guest, pause and hand out a hostess brochure with the door prize clipped to it, to each guest.  Have the brochure opened to the wish list section and be sure each guest has a pen.  Tell the group that you want them to write out their wish list as you go through the items on the table.  When you’ve gone around the room, fill out the door prize slip through #3.  Then stop.  Place 6 tealights in a row on your display table and tell the guests that you are going to give them an opportunity to get a tealight.  You want them to ask you a question related to your job.  Give a tealight to each guest who asks a question and stop after the 6th question has been answered.  Hand out a You Can Have It All brochure with a special invitation to the next meeting (unit workshop, opportunity meeting or regional).  Tell them that you would love to have them come and find out more as your special guest.  Then, finish off door prize slip by asking for a referral for a booking AND a sponsor for #4.  Then, finish with #5.

Close your demonstration with the Tealight promise (this is optional, but powerful).  Hold up a tealight box filled with 12 different scents.  Explain to group that you have a tealight promise.  The promise is: “If I fail to offer you the opportunity tonight to book a party or start your own business, you get the tealight sampler FREE!”  In order to be successful with this, you must be prepared to ask each person to either book a party or to start their business.  Be prepared with hostess packets and opportunity packets.  (credit for this idea goes to Laura Klein)

Another great gift idea to use at shows for games is a smaller Ziploc bag with You Can Have It All brochure, Candle Care Card, tealight, and 10 most commonly asked questions about the Company or Four Areas Of Income.  Roll up the info and put tealight in also.  When you give the gift say “You think the candle is the gift, but the information is the real treasure.  Light the candle and read the information and I will follow up with you in the next 24 hours.(credit for this idea goes to Julie Davis)
