[Best of Boards]  [BoB for Bunnies] [Tealited Tidbits]

A leader that I love told me not long ago that she was in hopes that her upcoming "meeting" would be interesting.  At first I felt sad that someone with so much talent for making people feel good about themselves and there business would doubt their skills.  Then I remembered that not all people we bring into the business have "happy thoughts" and one of them might have said an unkind word to her filling her with doubts.

I have heard unkind things said about outstanding leaders here in Ohio that many of you would live to visit!  We can't please all of the people all of the time, and as our teams grow and grow, we have a greater chance of finding a few unhappy people along the way.  We can't place our focus on the negative on our teams, after all; it is the few!  We must look at the many people that love, support and encourage us.  We are the true [company] team!

I find such support from all of you from the internet, so I will post my thoughts to all of you leaders and future leaders out there!  I hope you find even a little encouragement in something I say!

National conference!

What is the first thing that comes to mind when you read those two words? Is it " THE GUYS" ?  For some like Jo M.  it is!!!  :)    What about making new friends, free gifts, surprises, entertainment, awards, traveling to a new city, Oh yes; the training.  I'll bet that as much as we all love the training we think of our new friends and free gifts first!

How many of you would work as hard for the incentive trip if it was 4 days filled with back to back training early in the morning till late at night?  A few people will tell us they would, trying to impress us with there commitment, however; we all know better as we all like to party!  We love the FUN and excitement of a trip filled with gifts and surprises, entertainment and awards.  Much like our conference with a little less training.

Would you get as many guest to your shows if we renamed them " SALES LECTURES" or " candle selling meeting"?  I can hear it now, (Want to come to my sales lecture next week and buy candles?) I think not!!!     That's what our name is all about!  We are in home sales, however our business is FUN like a PARTY!

When we plan our "meetings", we need to think about what we all love most about [company]!  The FUN, surprises, awards, and all the excitement of conference. No one says that we need to stand behind a table and painfully grunt out all the info your team needs to hear at your "meetings" !  Just fallow the [company] lead!  Make it fun for yourself and everyone that is the
least bit happy will love it!

Be predictably unpredictable!

1) Pick a theme to fallow and announce it early enough to allow your team members with talent to give you some ideas for things like fun songs or table ideas or ACS fund raising things that are true to your theme.  By using these ideas, you make them a part of the "meeting"  and let them know you value their input!  ( If you don't let them in and you pick a theme they are an
expert on, they might be board by knowing how there talent was wasted!)

2) Like in conference, open with music.  Some times throw in a surprise like a hint of something to come before the " meeting" starts. Other times get right down to business.

Have everyone stand. Tell them to sit when you say the number of shows they have booked in the month ahead.  Start with 1 and go up to the number that leaves you with one person standing!  Give them a votive and a round of applause!  That would be a fun start!

The next month, play the same game only ask for how many 2+2 calls made in the past week.  Change it each month or don't play it at all.  KEEP THEM GUESSING!

3) Give all your leaders a raffle ticket as they enter.  Draw a number and call that leader to stage.  Have them explain the first level of leadership.  After that, have them pick the next number of the next leader to go till you hit SRVP!  The random pick will keep all of your leaders sharp when it comes to the facts!  Should one of them not know the answer, it will be a true
learning experience for them!

Next month pass out balloons with the levels inside. Have everyone hit them around till the music stops.  Have them pop the balloons and line up on stage in order.

Play the balloon game next month with a picture of a lock or a key inside.  People with a lock go to one side of the room and key people to the other.  Have the lock people tell of a fear that has there business locked up and then pick a key person to unlock the problem!  That would be fun!  (Should a person have a tough time with any part they have, I know your team has loving people to help them out!)  That way we can point out that we always have someone to help us when needed in [company]!

When people are involved in the training and "meetings", they tend to pay more attention and get more out of it!  You can't do it all, but you can plan how it all gets done.  You are all one team so all of you are equally responsible  for the outcome of each meeting!  Get them involved.  If I was to go through a whole "meeting" it would take weeks to type!

Just keep in mind that PARTY is what we are all about!  A monthly regional or unit party is less scary than the monthly meetings!

If you are interested in any more of my ideas to liven up your gatherings, let me know and I'll post a huge list of FUN things!

Best wishes to you, Hank
