[Best of Boards]  [BoB for Bunnies] [Tealited Tidbits]

9/19/99

The meeting was all but over as leaders, consultants and guest began to gather up there belongings. The room was filled with a soft roar from conversations about everything from the week ahead to the wonderful Raffle prize that was won. Little did we know that one of the greatest moments of the meeting was yet to come!

The agenda was followed from start to finish. Our BELOVED SRVP sat in the back of the room, still recovering from a recent hospital stay. One of our leaders carried the regional meeting off with the style and excitement we have become used to. Our leaders have all developed the skills needed to make our monthly meetings as exciting as a day at national conference. Without our SRVP running the meeting, we put them to the test as they gave us another outstanding day of training! We gave out all the recognition, information and training that was planed as we covered all the same things you do at your meetings. One thing however, was yet to come.

Our SRVP is one of the most grateful, kind and positive people in the world, much less in all of [company].  As people prepared to leave, our SRVP made her way through the crowd and to the front of the room. The pain from her recent surgery showing on her face, she slowly stepped the few steps to the stage. The room suddenly became very quit as she took the microphone. One award and recognition still needed to be made.

It began with a talk as personal as Dianne Baldridge addressing conference on cancer. In her gracious ways, she took the time to point out people in the region  that have displayed the POSITIVE INFLUENCE [company] is famous for! From setting up displays for her at her parties to moving in with her family for a week to help out, [company] people in her region, as well as others; were there for her.

One by one she listed the region's TOP ACHIEVERS of the month in the unofficial category of consultant and leaders POSITIVE INFLUENCE AWARD! These people got the recognition that [company] is famous for. No gift or prize was given at the meeting as all of the top achievers have already received the [company] Paycheck of the Heart we often speak of.

[company] is more than booking shows and sponsoring. (For these categories [company] recognizes both leaders and consultants in unit, regional, and at national meetings.) Yet one of our greatest assets in [company] remains! The love and support we show to each other whether in the best of times or in times of need. In the past month our SRVP has experienced first hand what a gift it is.

What a wonderful ending to a meeting! Much like [company] ends conference with it's awards including the POSITIVE INFLUENCE AWARD to three RVP'S for "demonstrating a positive attitude and nurturing influence toward others".

Why? Because having a POSITIVE ATTITUDE is as much a part of [company] as the home show is! I think it would be great if our leaders would take the time each month to recognize a leader or consultant in the region for having a POSITIVE INFLUENCE on others in the business. If a region has a problem finding one or two worthy people in there region each month there's a problem. Ether the leaders are not connected to the team players or they have the only region in [company] that lacks consultants helping others.

Why is it that I can walk all over people and be as cruel, selfish and unkind as I want, yet if I beat you and everyone else in sponsoring or sales, I'll receive recognition in my Unit, Region and at National Conference? Yet at the same time, hundreds of [company] consultants and leaders are making a POSITIVE INFLUENCE on others and often are never recognized at the unit level much less regional or national conference! It would be worth it for us to point out the Positive and good among us once a month as we would be inspiring others to be positive achievers as well! Who doesn't like to hear of people doing good among us? It's time has come for us to honor people that uphold one of our greatest treasures, a POSITIVE ATTITUDE in [company]!

Official or not, I ask all of you to think about starting a "POSITIVE INFLUENCE AWARD in your unit and region each month. What a great tribute to your positive influence on others! Many of you LEAD the way when it comes to being a positive influence, let's recognize those that follow your lead!

Thank you, dear friend and Beloved SRVP! Your never ending efforts to remain the Positive person that you are has now spilled over and just might reach out into many units and regions other than your own. You are the positive influence I long to be!  :)

Best wishes,  Hank
