The illness:
I subscribed to onelist because I'm down in the dumps with my business. I
started in JANUARY and had an excellent brite start period. The summer has been terrible
for me. It is so hard to get people in Brooklyn interested in PL.
Just last week I sent out flyers announcing the Christmas catalog and offering my own
incentive. I sat down tonight to do my 2 plus 2's, I called 10 people and got 10 NO'S. I
got so discouraged I gave up. I know they are not saying no to me, but I'm losing
enthusiasm. If anyone has any ideas for me, I would love them.

The cure:
Keep trying! I talked to so many more people at conference who had horrible June/July than
the ones that did great (I can't even recall too many of them). It made me feel lots
better since my June/July stunk it up pretty bad too. I don't know about you, but part of
that was my own fault - 2+2 scares the pants off of me and I have to tell you that until
Sunday when I got home from conference I had NEVER done it. (I started in April)
When I returned home all psyched up from meeting 8700 of my closest friends &
supporters at conference, I thought if I don't do it now I never will. So I did. It was
hard. It was a small start. I did 6 calls Sunday, and WROTE THEM DOWN with their results.
So I thought YEA! I did it! Now I'm able to do 2+2! Guess what? Monday night that &%^$
phone was 10 feet tall again. It was harder on Monday to make myself do it - that first
call you would have thought the phone was covered with poison I was so afraid to pick it
up. I DID PICK IT UP and booked two more shows, got 2 maybes and 2 no's. (And one of those
no's was a change-my-mind from Sunday *rats*). Again - I WROTE THE RESULTS DOWN and wow! I
was consistent for 2 days straight!
Yesterday (Tuesday) I find myself on the receiving end of a flu bug that has been going
around here while I was gone to conference...went to work, but left after lunch feeling
just yucky. But on the way home I had promised to drop off a catalog to one of the people
who booked a show on Monday nite - so I did - and there were two more people I hadn't
talked to in a while on the way home (I commute an hour to work so that covers a lot of
ground!). So I dropped by to show the new catalog & see if I could pick up a show.
Couldn't get a show, but got a $40 order, and a referral who needed someone to help with a
problem from another consultant. (oh boy I thought - here comes the negative)
Called that lady up & she was home, so I offered to come on over. When I got
there prepared for the worst - you know - complaints - she said "oh no, I just can't
get my candle lady to call me back - I need some votives!!!!"
Let's wrap this up - this new referral used to be a PL consultant, but has had some major
health problems - heart attack, asthma, trouble walking. She is pretty much confined to
her home, and sells Tupperware as well. She loves the PL product, but can't burn many
scents at once - doing shows made her pass out! But she will absolutely have a show in
September - (I just won't light all the candles LOL) - August is a huge month for
Tupperware too, so she just can't do it now. I made a great new friend! So my 2+2 for
Tuesday was only 3 calls, since I went home (sick - remember) and went to bed last night
very early. But I WROTE IT DOWN and look - consistent 3 days in a row!
By now you can probably tell that I am a very paper-oriented person - if I can see results
in a chart on paper, I know I'm doing it. The bigger point is that you have to (here we
go) step out of that comfort zone! It doesn't matter how positive & uplifting results
are one day - the next day I can easily talk myself out of getting back on the phone. It
scares me to death.
We've got a wonderful new catalog, trip incentives, $$ incentives, product incentives, the
company has given us all the tools to build an incredible fall calendar - but now it's up
to us. Good luck to you!

Hi there Janice: DON'T GIVE UP!!!!!! I started in March and I also have had a
difficult summer getting bookings or even to find people at home (lots of vacations, etc
going on for folks around here). After our regional meeting on Monday (we went over ideas
for 2+2 calls and the importance of them), I got my act together and sat down last night
and made 20 phone calls. I got some message machines, some people weren't home, but I got
"4 call me next month's and 1 message being passed to someone who is interested
and I got 2 bookings.....
So, don't stop at just 10...keep going girl. Spend at least one hour on your calls. Look
at that mirror and tell yourself if you make enough calls you WILL get a YES. Create a
script to follow....tell them about the absolutely awesome (use descriptive words, sound
enthusiastic) Hostess Specials for August...
The more calls you make the more practice you get and the better you become at it. Keep at
it and you will succeed, truly!
So, today/tonight, go to that phone (it is your friend) and make 20 calls...don't stop at
just 10....keep going....YOU CAN DO IT!!!!
Write to the list and let us all know how you did tomorrow, ok?
:-) -Barbara
I got 8 no's in a row last night and kept right on going. I played my Harpsicord
music, had my Midnight Blossom votive (my favorite scent) burning in my Optic Odyssey.
After I got the 8 no's I stood up, walked around the room, said right out loud to myself,
"Oh well, let's see what happens with this next call" and I sat down again and
went at it some more.
Don't get discouraged, getting no's is just a part of our business that happens and
getting yes's is just part of our business that happens. My new attitude is that every no
is a practice call and I feel stronger on my next calls because I feel more comfortable
each time I dial a new number. Have a mindset when you start your phone session knowing
you'll get some no's and don't let the no's bum you out.
Phone calls have been a big hurdle for me and I am determined to get over it and move on.
My new term is "mindset".....and I am working on it.

Until recently I had never done 2 + 2 calls. I have been a consultant since
February and have been using friends and family for all my orders so far. A strange little
birdy made me buckle down and make some calls....telling me I had to do 10 calls per day
so on Friday I sat down in front of the phone with my Door Prize slips and the Telephone
book and went to it. As Belinda said the phone was poison but I had a little birdy pushing
me saying things like "each call you make is worth $10 since from each show you do
you average $100 profit and if you get just one booking from every 10...." so I
picked up the phone and started calling.
Armed with a script that the little birdy had written I was met with amazing success. On
Friday I spoke to 10 people and from those 10 I got 5 firm bookings for August and
September. On Monday I tried again, not
as much success but I did get one booking from 16 calls.
For all of you who don't have a little birdy to help them, push them and become the
consultant that we all want to be I have included the script. I hope that it will help you
get through the 2 + 2 Blues:
"Good evening! Is Mrs.____________ at home this evening? (Pause and wait for an
answer)
Hello Mrs.___________, my name is __________, a Consultant for (company name).
I am calling this evening to tell you about our new holiday catalog filled with
beautiful candles and accessories that can accent any room in your home.
(Short Pause)
Our products are demonstrated with an in home demonstration that allows you to
experience the beauty and versatility of our products without ever having to leave the
comfort of your home. (Short Pause)
Do you have 2 friends, 2 relatives, 2 neighbors and 2 co-workers that you could
invite to share in this home demonstration? (Wait for answer)
Would you be interested in more information about how you could receive $100 in
free product? (Wait for answer)
When would be a good time for me to drop by a hostess package and meet you to
explain more about our amazing hostess benefits? (Small talk, not too much, use this time
to bond with a potential customer talking about local events, etc.)
Thank you for your time!
Note: If meeting is set up - "And I will see you ___DATE___, at __TIME__.
Note: If you receive a no or not right now - "May I call you at a more opportune
time? ____DATE/TIME_____
All this takes less than around 5 minutes per call so you can rack up a lot of potential
customers with just 1/2 hour per day of calling. I come from a small town in Ontario and I
"compete" with 5 other consultants in the immediate area but from the initial
calls I am the first to attempt this method of delivering our wonderful products to the
buying public so in the words of the little birdy....."Dial and Smile"
